FTI Touristic Germany: We love Nepal Tourism, and so do 2200 travel agents

Nepal Tourism Board successfully participated in the Asia Roadshow. The Asia Roadshow is an annual event organized by FTI Touristik Germany which is the 4th largest Tour Operator in Germany with having more than 2200 agents over Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The Roadshow was held in 5 prominent cities of Germany viz Hamburg, Essen, Mannheim, Wurzburg and Dresden from 21-25th August 2017.

This is the first initiative of Nepal Tourism Board to partner with an International Tour Operator for destination promotion. Nepal had an exclusive presentation session in all the events along with 5 other top destinations in Asia. The other destinations included China, Taiwan, Thailand and Singapore. Bangkok Airways, Singapore Airlines, Belmond Resorts-Bali, Hilton Hotel, Mulia hotels-Bali, Elephant Hills-Phuket and Interpid were individual tourism properties who were also a part of the Asia Roadshow.

Every event witnessed the participation of more than 80 agents where the exhibitors could do a serious Business to Business session with the potential buyers. A focused presentation session followed the B2B with FTI representative doing a detailed interview with the Destination Presenter regarding the destination. The program was short, effective and very well organized.

The participating agents were focused and knew why they were in the program. Many of the agents were new to Nepal. Some had pulled out the Nepal package after the Earthquake while very few were still selling Nepal. Nepal stand did receive an overwhelming and a very warm response from the German Tour Operators as they were surprised to see Nepal as one of the Sellers. Nepal was the only country to have participated in the FTI Asia Roadshow from South Asia till date. Nepal also had a competitive benefit of products among other Seller Destinations as we had completely different products than what they all were selling. The Dhaka Scarfs we distributed were absolutely loved by all.

Series of sessions were organized to convince tour operators concentrated around:

  • What tourism could expect from traveling to Nepal?
  • The pre-travel requisite for Nepal like visa and travel regulations, health (if any vaccination was required) and travel seasons.
  • Must visit areas and places of Nepal? What could be the different itineraries for first time visitors, second timers and the repeated visitors?
  • Cuisines of Nepal. The Germans were curious to know whether the cuisines varied as per the altitude and the geographical settlements?
  • Sacred tips for German travel agents to sell Nepal
  • These road shows and sessions were well represented by Mr. Ram Pratap Thapa-Honorary Consul General of Nepal, Nepal Tourism Board was represented by Mr. Lekh Nath Bhusal-Manager, NTB, Ms. Shradha Shrestha-Manager, NTB and Mr. Santosh Bhattarai-Honorary PRR of NTB.

Overall, the first initiative of NTB was well received by the German Trade. The program not only helped to re-position Nepal's Brand name among the German Travel trade but also helped in networking with Asian counterpart destinations for joint promotion.

Mr. Deepak Raj Joshi, Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Tourism Board remarked this initiative as pivotal to directly reach international tour operators. He further added "NTB will partner with all agencies and associations to bring desired number of tourists from source market creating awareness about Nepal. This type of program strongly supplements Nepal's participation in trade fairs and will be done regularly in the days to come. We are thankful to FTI Touristik for including Nepal in the Roadshow ".

Mr. Ram Pratap Thapa-Honorary Consul General of Nepal remarked 'Such specialized program for foreign travel agents is very necessary'.
