Bali most popular island getaway in Asia

Close on the heels of Bali, Lombok and Gili Trawangan were awarded fifth and sixth best in Asia, respectively. Maui in Hawaii was awarded the top world rank. Asia Pacific airlines show 4.5% growth in passenger demand

Preliminary traffic figures from the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) for March 2016 show further growth in international air passenger demand. A total of 24.4 million international passengers were carried by Asia Pacific airlines in March, 4.5 per cent more than in the same month last year. In revenue passenger kilometre (RPK) terms, international passenger demand registered a corresponding 4.7 per cent growth. Combined with the 6.7 per cent expansion in available seat capacity, the average international passenger load factor fell by 1.5 percentage points to 77.4 percent for the month. "During the first quarter of the year, Asia Pacific airlines saw international passenger numbers increase by a solid 7.5 per cent to an aggregate total of 72.8 million. Overall, the growth in demand for air passenger travel remains quite robust, supported by low oil prices and the widespread availability of affordable airfares. Haslam, Boyd to travel to Asia seeking auto sector jobs

Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and state Economic and Community Development Commissioner Randy Boyd will travel to Asia on an economic development trip to increase foreign direct investment related to the auto, high-tech and advanced manufacturing sectors. The 10-day business trip is scheduled from May 2 to May 11 and will include stops in Korea, China and Japan.  Haslam and Boyd will meet with executives of existing Tennessee businesses as well as work to expand relationships between Tennessee and Asian business communities. "Last year alone, foreign direct investments totaled $2.25 billion in capital and created more than 7,800 new jobs. Nida Rooms raises $4.2m to battle Rocket Internet for Southeast Asia’s budget travelers

Indonesia-headquartered Nida Rooms announced today that it has secured US$4.2 million in a "pre-series A" funding round. The majority of the investment was provided by Convergence Ventures and CyberAgent Ventures at a valuation of "around US$11 million." The startup, which launched in December, was earlier funded to the tune of US$1.5 million in its seed round. No point increasing footprint without depth in any markets. Nida Rooms is similar to well-funded Indian startup Oyorooms in the sense that it's trying to solve the fragmented nature of the budget hotel industry in Southeast Asia by giving travelers uniformity of service at competitive rates.
