With eye on future Asia flights, Las Vegas airport to grow

By KIMBERLY PIERCEALL Travel Aug. 30, 2015 - 04:43AM JST ( ) LAS VEGAS — Las Vegas plans to double the number of international gates at McCarran International Airport with the expectation that foreign travel to the destination will climb as officials seek out prized direct flights, particularly with Asia. McCarran International Airport director Rosemary Vassiliadis said that construction to convert part of an existing link between its D concourse and one of its two terminals into seven additional international gates would begin later this year. Among the new gates would be one to accommodate a wide-body double-decker A-380 aircraft for the first time at the airport. "We don't want them to think they can't come here," she said of the airlines flying the massive passenger planes. Vassiliadis announced construction of the new gates at a meeting of the Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee, a governor-appointed panel of tourism officials an

Corporate travel: CAPA's Sydney Innovation Summit tackled the issue of supply chain disruption

Image
© CAPA Disruption, data and duty of care were the major topics as Australia's corporate travel leaders met in Sydney at the CAPA Asia Pacific Corporate Travel Innovation Summit 2015. The Summit, which attracted around 150 senior travel managers, heard predictions for the near- and long term future of travel as well as supplier and buyer insights into current challenges and opportunities. There was a strong expectation that the disruptive technologies like Uber and Airbnb will continue to challenge current travel management practices, forcing all levels of the supply chain to adapt. A number of speakers emphasised the increasing role of data in travel management, although there are still concerns about data ownership and access. Duty of care and traveller safety remain a challenge for all in the industry, with several people expressing fears that organisations are still not fully aware of their responsibilities. The practical ramifications of these issues were

Senior US official to travel to Israel to discuss Iran deal

POSTED: 28 Aug 2015 05:10 WASHINGTON: A senior U.S. Treasury official will travel to Israel this week to discuss the nuclear deal reached between Iran and world powers with senior Israeli officials, the Treasury Department said on Thursday. Acting Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Adam Szubin will travel to Israel from Friday through Monday, the Treasury said in a statement. It will be his first visit there since the nuclear deal was signed in July. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu strongly opposes the accord reached between Iran and the United States and five other world powers, which imposes limits on Iran's nuclear programme in return for relief from sanctions. He argues the deal does not do enough to curb Iran's nuclear programme and will bring Tehran a windfall in sanctions relief that could help fund regional conflicts. While in Israel, Szubin will discuss details of the nuclear deal and "emphasise the United States'

Better health for South Asia

Bangladeshi patients travel now more than ever before. And this is not a trend only among the affluent section, but also across middle and even lower middle class patients. India, Thailand, Singapore, the UK and the USA are common destinations for check-ups and treatment. On account of cost and geographical distance, India stands at the top not only for Bangladesh, but also for other South Asian neighbours in regards to medical and wellness tourism.  The shortage of medical facilities in these countries has led to such cross-border trade in health services in the region. But healthcare tourism is only one component of trade in health services. Telemedicine, cross border investment in health infrastructure and movement of health personnel are the other areas where collaboration amongst the South Asian countries can be strengthened.  But the prospect for higher volume of trade in health services is constrained by several factors. These relate to infrastructural, regulatory, p

Image

Others will immediately start over-sharing every travel nightmare they, and everyone on the internet have ever experienced. Finally there are the folks that hit you up with a rapid fire, laundry list of questions like a hypochondriac during a doctor's visit. The other ever popular response is "Wow, so you must get to like travel all over the world for free-right?" Truth be told, I have the best, most misunderstood job in the world. It's true, most people have know idea how travel agents work and how they can help. Hopefully, I can help clear up some of this confusion by explaining things about what we do.... Most desperate vacation-seekers, take the knee jerk reaction of heading online

Mike Arroyo asks anti-graft court to allow him to travel to Europe, east Asia

August 17th, 2015 08:24 PM Former First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo is off again for a tour across Europe and Asia from September 15 to November 3, promising the Sandiganbayan he will return to continue his trial for graft. Arroyo asked the Sandiganbayan Fourth and Fifth Divisions to allow him to travel, invoking his "constitutional right to travel" since he has not been found guilty in court, while saying he would follow the court's restrictions to guarantee his return. Arroyo did not give the reason for his tour across five countries in Europe and two countries in Asia. The husband of former president and now Pampanga Rep. Warren Buffett's purchase of Precision Castparts is a $37 billion bet on air travel

With the purchase of Precision Castparts Corp., Berkshire Hathaway's Warren Buffett is wagering that increasing world travel, especially in Asia and emerging markets, will buoy the aerospace industry for years to come. Airlines have been ordering new planes to meet growing demand for travel and replacing less efficient and less comfortable jets, pushing production backlogs to a record eight years, said Richard Aboulafia, an aerospace analyst with Teal Group, a Fairfax, Virginia-based consultant. Although the industry goes through cycles and has periods when travel tapers off, such as recessions or following the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, plane production has grown steadily over the last half century, Aboulafia said. Precision Castparts, which supplies components such as turbine blades for jet engines and fasteners for airplanes, gets about two-thirds of revenue from the aerospace industry. "It's hard to see when the good times will end," Aboulafia
