When you arrive in the capital of Bangkok, spend a couple of days exploring the city. It is a contrast of bustling city landscape and a labyrinth of alleys crammed with fragrant street food. Khao San Road is a good first stop; its exciting nightlife and cheap accommodation make it the perfect place for both experienced and first time travellers. Eating Out The food is guaranteed to be amazing. Trying a traditional Thai Green Curry and a beautifully sweet Phad Thai is essential. If you're feeling adventurous try Tom Yam or Sour Thai Soup, Som Tam and Khai Soi. An authentic dish of fresh mango and sticky coconut rice is also a breakfast staple. History & Culture Thailand has a rich culture; however the King's recent death has cast some doubt upon the country's future. Despite this, religion still plays a big part of everyday life and Buddhism is adh

US should consider Beijing-backed Asia-Pacific trade deal: China paper

Leaders of the 12 countries that signed the Trans-Pacific Partnership met on Saturday (Nov 19) to seek ways forward on the landmark trade deal, which hangs in the balance following Mr Donald Trump's victory in the United States presidential election. But he said a lesson from the election of Donald Trump, and from Brexit, was that a lot of people were "pretty angry, don't trust politicians, and feel like they're no better off today than they were a decade ago or worse", so political parties ought to listen. Since Trump's victory, top officials from countries that signed up to the TPP - including Japan and Australia - have been cited as saying attention is likely to shift to China's plans. In a Pacific region hungry for trade, that has left even longtime U.S. allies looking to China - which was notably excluded from the TPP - to fill the void. Mr Trump made opposing the TPP a key part of his election campaign, saying America did "not need t

New Delhi : No surprises here. Workers across Asia, Canada, the US and Mexico are the biggest workaholics and the most vacation-deprived employees in the world, according to the results of a new report. The latest Expedia Vacation Deprivation report shows that little has changed since the travel website launched the report more than a dozen years ago. As in years past, while South Koreans are entitled to 15 days of holidays a year, the average taken is eight — the least among the 28 countries surveyed. Workers in North America don't fare much better when it comes to striking a work-life balance: Though Americans received 15 vacation days in the past year, the average taken was 12. That translates to 375 million paid vacations lost in 2016. "We've been looking at vacation and work-life balance for more than a decade now and while many of the employed adults we survey agree that regular vacations are important for their general health and wellbeing, there are s

From Italian-Asian to Locavore Canadian: Food Adventures in Vancouver

Early this fall, I visited mainly newer restaurants in the downtown area, where some interesting experimentation is going on. But don't let that deter you from popping into tiny spots like Damso on Denman Street where you might find, as I did, some of the best rice cakes in chile sauce you've ever tasted. Photo A table at Kissa Tanto. Credit Martin Tessler for The New York Times Kissa Tanto Stylish and sultry, with a jazzy soundtrack to match, Kissa Tanto, in a gritty section of Chinatown, feels like a secret. Except that it's not. Even before it opened in the spring, local epicures were wondering what the team behind Vancouver's celebrated Chinese brasserie, Bao Bei, had up its sleeve — and it wasn't more of that restaurant's addictive dumplings. Instead, on the second floor of a small building with Chinese flourishes, Vancouver was about to welcome what would beco
