A vacation means different things to different people; while some prefer to relax, others long for adventure! If you are an adventure junkie, check out these extreme sports:

Whale Shark Diving, Thailand

Diving can be as laid back as it is adventurous but there's a simple, heart pulsing way to liven up the entire experience if you're looking for something a little more extreme. Head towards the Surin Islands and dive at the Richelieu Rock where whale sharks are commonly sighted. They are difficult to miss as at their largest they can reach 40 feet in length. Huge they may be but don't worry too much as they are actually quite pleasant creatures and stick to a staple diet of plankton.

Skydiving, Lido Lakes, Indonesia

Skydiving is one of the most enduring extreme sports in the world and there are few better places on earth to give it a try than right here at the Lido Lakes of Indonesia. The incredible valleys and lush scenery of the lakes make skydiving here fantastic. You'll jump from high in the sky and plunge towards earth at lightning speed, adrenaline coursing through your entire body while the blues and greens of the earth below rush towards your eyes. This is perhaps our favourite extreme sports in the whole of Asia.

Flyboarding, Queenco Beach Resort, Cambodia

This is one of the newest sports on this list (the fly board was only invented in 2011) and is quickly catching on everywhere from London to LA and now even Cambodia. Imagine, quite simply, a hoverboard (yes, just like the one in Back to The Future) only above water and powered by a jet-ski-like engine that propels the rider forwards and upwards—often resulting in a dive back into the water. It's one for futurists as much as it is for thrill-seekers and an incredibly fun way to explore the waters of Cambodia. The sport is still catching on but we think this is one to watch!

Whitewater Rafting, Cagayan de Oro, Philippines

The thrill of rafting through chaotic rapids, grasping your ear and feeling the splash of the cold waters of the Cagayan de Oro River on your face is unbeatable. Our favourite way to do it is at night with the moon and stars providing your only illumination and afterwards, camping in the Philippines wilderness for the night. Another great place to try it is in the otherwise serene rivers of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand.

Waterfall Abseiling, Chiang Mai, Thailand

If you've tried rock climbing and want a new challenge then waterfall abseiling may be just what you need. You'll climb and abseil down the rocky cliffside on the beautiful Doi Inthanon in Chiang Mai...with a catch. You'll be hit with a never-ending torrent of water from a 35-foot waterfall. This is pretty popular throughout the region so you shouldn't have a problem finding an instructor should you need one. To push the boundaries, some people mix this with free climbing when over a large body of water so if you climb, at least the water's there to catch you.
