Headline: Bangkok Remains Top Destination in Asia Pacific

Bangkok remains the most visited destination in Asia Pacific, in terms of visitor numbers, according to the Mastercard Asia-Pacific Destinations Index, which analyzes travel journeys across 171 Asia Pacific destinations in 22 countries.

The Mastercard Asia-Pacific Destinations Index 2017 indicated that among the top Asia Pacific destinations ranked by international overnight arrivals, Bangkok came first in 2016, with 19.3 million visitors, followed by Singapore, Tokyo, Seoul, and Kuala Lumpur. Phuket in southern Thailand raked sixth, with 9.1 million visitors, and Pattaya in eastern Thailand ranked eighth, with 8.1 million visitors.

Bangkok also topped the list of total nights stayed with 87.6 million nights, while Sydney came in second place with 87.5 million, followed by Kuala Lumpur at 76.7 million.

Since its founding as the capital city of Thailand in 1782, Bangkok has grown to become an important political, social, and economic center of Southeast Asia. Its influence in the arts, politics, fashion, education, and entertainment, as well as its role as a business, financial, and cultural center has made Bangkok a global city.

Bangkok is an ideal destination for "meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions (MICE) travelers from around the globe. The convention and exhibition centers in the city have been constructed at the highest standards.

The main venues for the biggest events are the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Center (BITEC) in Bang Na, and the IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center in Muang Thong Thani. Moreover, Bangkok boasts a diverse transport system, connecting function areas and convention centers, sufficient to accommodate tourists and conventioneers.

Bangkok has diverse attractions, from cultural and historical sites, to shopping malls with countless outlets selling an amazing variety of goods at a wide range of prices. It is also the center for leading hospitals, with efficient, English-speaking physicians, and excellent medical facilities.
