The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) has joined forces with Triip.me for a new competition showcasing entrepreneurship in the travel startup space.

The Global Travel Entrepreneur Challenge 2016 (GTEC 2016) has been launched and is also being supported by Gobi Partners, FWD Hong Kong and the Seychelles Tourism Board.

It is targeting Millennials and young professionals looking to create their own successful travel startup.

"As part of our focus on human capital development and the young tourism professional, GTEC is the perfect platform for PATA to help empower today's youth and support young entrepreneurs in the travel industry," said PATA CEO Mario Hardy.

"The competition not only provides funds to five winners to help grow their sustainable travel companies but also, importantly, gives all participants practical hands-on experience in creating a travel business."

Participants establish small teams of between 1-5 members and create travel tours on Triip.me's  platform operating all aspects of their business from operations to marketing and promotions.

It is open to all budding travel business owners between the ages of 18 and 35.

The GTEC 2016 contest runs from August 29 to November 15.

"GTEC 2016 is designed as a pragmatic launching base for young Millennials to experience challenges via travelling and entrepreneurship. To me, the two most exciting ventures in life are travel and starting your own business at a young age," said Hai Ho, CEO of Triip.me

Up for grabs is the grand prize of $5,000 and a trip to the Seychelles. Supplementary prizes are also offered for Best Video and Social Media,  the 'Most Creative Triip' and Customer Happiness Award.

In addition FWD Hong Kong is also underwriting a special prize for the best Hong Kong based local expert.
