Universal Studios Singapore ranked top amusement park in Asia: Travel site

    • SINGAPORE: Universal Studios Singapore (USS) is the top amusement park in Asia for the third year running, travel site TripAdvisor announced on Wednesday (Jun 29). On a global basis, it came in 17th overall.

    USS beat out regional competitors such as Hong Kong Disneyland (second), Tokyo DisneySea (fourth), Universal Studios Japan (fifth), Tokyo Disneyland (sixth) and Legoland Malaysia (twelfth). 

    Adventure Cove in Resorts World Sentosa was also ranked among the top 10 water parks in Asia, coming in sixth. Waterbom Bali in Indonesia, Black Mountain Water Park in Thailand and Caribbean Bay in South Korea took the top three spots respectively, while Sunway Lagoon Theme Park in Malaysia pipped Adventure Cove to come in fifth.

    "We are honoured that Universal Studios Singapore is awarded top amusement park in Asia for three years in a row, and Adventure Cove Waterpark has been ranked the sixth water park in Asia," said Mr Jason Horkin, Senior Vice President of Attractions at Resorts World Sentosa.

    Globally, Universal's Islands of Adventure in Orlando was named the top amusement park in the world for the second year running. Amusement parks in Orlando took the top three spots, with Discovery Cove coming in second and Disney's Magic Kingdom in third. 

    Siam Park in Spain was ranked the top water park in the world.

    Award winners were determined based on the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings for the amusement parks and water parks worldwide on the TripAdvisor website, gathered over a 12-month period, the site said.

    Bacardi GTR shuffles Asia team

    Bacardi Global Travel Retail (GTR) has appointed Vinay Golikeri as regional director Asia Pacific, as Irving Holmes Wong moves into the domestic China MD role. Bacardi GTR has appointed Vinay Golikeri as Bacardi GTR regional director Golikeri joined the Bacardi GTR team in 2011 as marketing director, and has since led the company's strategic drive to premiumise the portfolio. In his new role, Golikeri will be based in Hong Kong, reporting to Mike Birch, Bacardi GTR managing director.
