New Asian street food joint rolls into beloved Austin restaurant space

One local restaurateur is bringing a unique dining concept to Austin inspired by 10,000 miles of travel throughout Southeast Asia. Street, which opened to the public this week, is bridging the gap between Asian-American and traditional Asian cuisine.

Street is located downstairs from Chinatown on Greystone Drive, in the former Musashino space. Owner and chef Ronald Cheng (who also owns the Chinatown chain) wanted to make his travels accessible to our foodie city. Cheng has achieved just that with Street, which features a lineup of his favorite authentic Asian street dishes.

Street's made-from-scratch menu offers everything from sushi rolls with a twist to unusual plates like jellyfish salad. There's also an entire section spotlighting "on a stick" items, as well as lunch specials representing Cheng's treasured places, like the Taipei Box with fried pork chops, braised tofu and egg, and pickled vegetables or the Hong Kong Box with roast duck, Chinese sausage, and pickled cabbage. Other intriguing items include the roast beef onion wrap, taro fries, and Sriracha chicken wings.

The restaurant's casual vibe is accented by decor collected from Cheng's travels. Two Japanese kimonos grace the entryway, while a custom Chinese wood host stand greets guests. As friendly staff caters to hungry diners, kung fu movies play in the background.

With its delectable dishes, cozy ambiance, draft beer, and a full bar, Street is destined to become a neighborhood favorite. And speaking of neighborhood favorites, fans of Musashino shouldn't fret — the sushi spot simply relocated to West Campus in early June.

Street is open Tuesday through Thursday 11 am to 10 pm, Friday 11 am to 10:30 pm, Saturday 5 to 10:30 pm, and Sunday 11 am to 10 pm.
